Chapter 1171: Eric faltered, caught off guard, unsure how to sway her.

"Hadley," Denver said softly, his eyes warm with patience. "You've been out here all afternoon. Don't you miss Joy? When I left, she hadn't touched her food. She insisted on waiting for you to eat with her." Hadley parted her lips, but words failed her, her resolve wavering.

"Let's head back, shall we?" Denver coaxed.

After a moment's silence, Hadley nodded reluctantly. “Okay." Denver held the umbrella steady, guiding her forward with a supportive hand on her arm.

Eric's frown deepened as he trailed behind.

The gated community barred outside vehicles, so their cars waited at the main entrance.

The rain, relentless all day, showed no mercy, cascading in sheets. Denver angled the umbrella to shelter Hadley completely, leaving his own shoulder and back drenched.

Eric observed in silence, wrestling with the storm brewing within him, before opening his car door and sliding inside.

Inside his own car, Denver glanced at the rearview mirror, puzzled. “Where is Eric off to? Isn't he joining us at the hospital?" Hadley's eyes flicked to the mirror, catching Eric's sleek black Bentley veering in the opposite direction.

She leaned back, shaking her head. "I haven't the faintest idea." But deep down, she knew the truth—he was probably headed to Linda's place.

They were lovers, after all. It made sense he would seek her out, but why now, of all moments? Despite everything they had shared, Hadley had believed Eric's bond with Joy was unbreakable.

Apparently, even family ties paled beside the pull of his heart's desire. Hadley shut her eyes, pressing a hand to her temple, her mind racing. Her efforts to track Noreen had crumbled-where to turn next? "Hadley," Denver said, his tone cautious as he glanced her way. "On my way here, I made scalls." Hadley stiffened, sitting upright, her gaze locking onto Denver. "What do you mean?" Read it all on gVlnovдls"I reached out to scontacts," Denver explained deliberately. "Brady's an adult, so the police can't file a case without solid proof that he's missing. But I've tapped every resource I know, including my cousin's network. They're on it, and with any luck, we'll hear something soon." Hadley stared, her eyes wide, her voice quivering. "Do you... do you think it'll work?" Srixby was a sprawling maze. Finding someone held captive was like searching for a needle in a haystack.

"We've got to try," Denver said, nodding toward her puffy eyes. "We're nearly at the hospital. Dry your tears. Joy picks up on everything. Let's not let her see you've been crying, alright?"

"Okay," Hadley murmured, nodding with effort, her heart heavy.búť ve hopeful m

Even if it felt like looking for a needle in a haystack, at least there was still we aglimmer of hope. In the confines of his Bentley, Eric dialed Linda's number.

"Linda," he greeted as she picked up.

"What kept you so busy earlier? Too tied up to take my call? You didn't even joinformy appointment," Linda said, a hint of reproach in her tone.
