Chapter 231
Chapter 231
~Ava's POV-
23)
| flung the door open, hoping the few seconds between Isabella's statement andreaching for the handle
were enough to get my breath in check and my head together. But the moment | saw her face, | knew | had
failed miserably.
flicked straight past me, landing on Grayson, who still hadn’t moved from where he stood inside. A knowing
smirk started forming on her lips, and before she could open her mouth, I cut her off.
“Don’t.”
Without giving her a chance to respond, | stepped out, slamming the door behindbefore grabbing her arm
and pulling her away.
Isabella, of course, wasted no time. She whisper-yelled, her voice dripping with amusement.
“Ava Lilian Pierce, | leave you alone for five minutes, and you're already humping! What happened to your whole
speech about keeping your distance? And what about everything he did?”
“I know, | know,” | snapped, rubbing my temple as | fought against the overwhelming mess in my head, “I don’t
know what happened. Please, just drop it.”
She did not, in fact, drop it. Instead, her eyes dropped to my stomach, “You're probably carrying twins now. He
just added another baby to it.”
“Will you quit it? We didn’t have sex!” | hissed. “And stop saying things related to pregnancy! You're the reason
I'm pregnant in the first place-because you said it! And | swear, if | am carrying twins, | will throttle you.”
She grinned wider, utterly unfazed by my glare. But as | opened my mouth to tell her off again, | suddenly
remembered what she had said before | stormed out of the room.
Urgency slammed back into my chest, “What did my mother say? What's the bad news?”
The teasing evaporated from Isabella's face, her smirk fading as something grim took its place.
“She did go after Damien on her own-"
Before she could say anything else, footsteps carried. My breath hitched as Grayson stepped out, his presence
an unwanted distraction. | grabbed Isabella’s wrist, my pulse racing.
“Where is she? I'll ask her myself.”
Without waiting for an answer, | marched down the hall, pulling Isabella with me. The moment we stepped into
the sitting area, my eyes locked onto my mother.

She was seated on the couch, talking to Ricardo in hushed tones, her expression tight. Across the room, Elaine
sat curled up in a chair, scrolling through her phone, completely detached from the tension that filled the air.
Her head snapped up, eyes shifting away from Ricardo as she looked atbut before | could open my mouth
again, she narrowed her eyes and scolded, “What were you thinking, going to meet with Damien on your own?”
“Don’t scold me,” | snapped. “You are the one who brought us here, and while you were off doing whatever you
wanted, | found out that the sister you never toldexisted is Crystal. Freaking Crystal.”
The color drained from my mother’s face. Her lips parted slightly, her expression flickering between shock and
something
unreadable.

Ricardo’s signature smile grew on his face like he was enjoying the explosion that was coming then exchanged a
glance with Elaine, who had suddenly stopped scrolling. Isabella crossed her arms beside me, her gaze bouncing
between us, clearly entertained despite the tension.
My mother swallowed hard, but she recovered quickly, straightening her back, “Who told you that?”
I let out a sharp, bitter laugh, “That's what you care about?”
“What | care about,” She snapped, her voice cutting through the air like a blade, “is you not understanding just
how significant you are to him. That essence you carry can tip the scale of what is happening now, and you
refuse to think with your head. Instead, you go charging into danger alone. With a child.”
“Well, | wasn’t alone. | was with Grayson.” | didn’t even know why | said it, but the moment the words left my
mouth, my mother’s attention snapped away fromand onto him.
Her eyes narrowed, and her voice dripped with venom. “You know, you and that bloodline of yours are the start
of my problem.”
| felt Grayson tense behind me, his irritation rolling off him in waves, “Watch it.”
“No-"
“Oh, please, will everyone just shut up! Shut up, please!”
Elaine’s sudden outburst silenced the room.
She stepped forward, her face contorted in fury, her voice slicing through the air like a whip. “Isn't it exhausting?
Huh? | mean, I'm all for going crazy and being a first-class bitch, but even | am tired of all the , so will you
just stop it?” Her glare swept across each of us. “Everyone here has a common enemy who has already caused
so much damage, and we all have a target on our backs from a psychotic maniac with a twenty-five-year
vendetta.
“Grayson didn’t ask for a curse to be passed down to him. Ava didn’t ask to be part of sfreakish prophecy.
And yet, here we are, still fighting each other instead of dealing with the fact that Damien is planning something
huge right now and we still don’t know what it is. So can everyone just calm the hell down?”
The silence that followed was absolute, suffocating.
My mother and | still glared at each other, neither of us backing down. But then, | was the first to look away.
Elaine, still fuming, pointed at Isabella, “Go and mind-link Rickon. Find out what's happening with him, Ava’s
father, and that witch whose n| can’t even remember.”
Then she turned to my mother, her eyes sharp with challenge, “You want to act like you have it all together, but
everyone saw the shock on your face. So why don’t you take a damn minute and process the fact that you just
found out who your other daughter is?”
She didn’t wait for a response before turning her attention to Ricardo. Her lip curled, “And you-stop smiling.
There is nothing funny about this situation or anything that’s happening. Go-go pet your tiger out or something. |
don’t care.”
Ricardo blinked, but the amused glint in his eyes didn’t disappear entirely.
Elaine wasn't finished. She spun onand Grayson, and the weight of her frustration crashed over us like a
tidal wave, “And you two-I have had it. | didn’t approve of this before, and I still don’t know if | approve now, but
for the love of the goddess, even fate itself has been shoving the two of you together! So neither of you are
stepping out of this room until you fix it.”
She exhaled sharply, her voice deadly calm, “Because | need someone to pay for what was done to me, and that
cannot happen if we keep tearing each other apart. So everyone else-out.”

No one argued.
Somehow, against all odds, Elaine had just commanded the entire damn room.

My mother didn’t lose her composure, but she walked out anyway. Ricardo didn’t stop smirking, but for the first
time, he looked at Elaine like she was something worth really paying attention to. Isabella, who had already been
halfway to the door, stared at Elaine like she was seeing her for the first time.
And then-just like that—they all left.
Elaine grabbed the door, glancing back at us one last time. “Fix it. And when you're done, go to a freaking
hospital and get that child checked out.”
Then she slammed the door shut. The lock clicked.

A heavy silence settled over the room.
| stared at the door, my mind still catching up with everything that had just happened.
Then, finally, | spoke. My voice was quiet, but the weight behind it was impossible to ignore, “Why couldn't you
just believe me? Not trust me-believe me?”
| turned slowly, my eyes locking onto his, “And Damien-even though we didn’t know it was him at the time-had
just made it known that | was his target. You didn’t care that something could happen to me. You toldto get
out of your life and you didn’t care, didn’t listen, didn’t trust me. What could you even say to make any of that
okay?”
| didn’t give him a chance to respond before | kept going, my voice gaining strength, “I mean, you didn’t even
stop to really think about any of those messages. Am | so jobless that | would wrap my entire life around some
schto what? Bring you down? And working with Dylan?” | let out a sharp, humorless laugh. “The sDylan
| was desperate to get away from when we first met? Do you not knowat all?”
“I screwed up.”
“No.” My voice cracked, but | forced myself to keep going, “You keep screwing up, Grayson. Again and again. And
you keep puttingin a position where | have to take more hurt than | know | deserve. If you were a character
in a book, wouldn't you be tired of this? Wouldn't you have just given up on us?”
I sucked in a shaky breath, “Because things are good one minute. And then they go horribly. Then you do
something, and | forgive you for it. And things are good again until they aren't. And we say we won't fight
anymore, but then what happens?”
| shook my head, my vision blurring with tears, “You toldyou loved me... and then you toldto get out of
your life. What? Why do you keep doing this?”
| didn’t even realize | had started crying until he moved-closing the distance between us, pullinginto his
arms, wrapping himself aroundlike he could holdtogether.
And for a moment-I let him.
Then, just as suddenly, | shoved his hands away, “Don’t touch me. I'm so mad at you.”
But even as | said it, | crashed back into his embrace, gripping onto his shirt like it was the only thing keeping me
upright, “I don’t know how to forgive you this time,” | whispered. “I just don’t.”
He let out a slow, heavy sigh and tightened his arms around me, “Then don’t.”
I pulled back, staring up at him, confused, “What do you mean don’t?”
He exhaled sharply, his gaze dropping for a moment before lifting back to mine. There was something different
in his expression-something final.

“Maybe it's tfor it to end,” He said quietly, “For us to end and this time, there will be no coming back from
ie.”
