We ran for hours. | stayed well away from the pack house and the dead caves. Nix and Megan keptcompany
as | worked through everything that was bouncing away in my head. Megan laid her head on my lap as | sat
against the tree that | attacked earlier. "Do you think they are still looking for us?" Her question was soft.
"Probably not." Nix called back. "I haven't heard anyone in a long time, and they probably figured we needed
space."
| shook my head. "They have to keep a low profile. No one can find out they are still alive." | ran my fingers
through her fur.
She cocked her head to stare up at my face with one eye. "How does no one know the pack is alive?" She
twisted, getting to her feet. "I've been thinking about this for a while and | have no idea how no one has figured
out that the pack survived."
Nix slid to a stop. "I've never thought about it until right now. But Megan is right. You would think someone would
have checked, right?"
I snorted. "Hubris."
"What?" Both my wolves sounded confused.

"I can't be certain, but knowing the players...Aurora, Verity, Vince. Without ever meeting Garith, | can honestly
say they all are the same. They are cocky. Full of themselves. And searching for a dead person is a waste of their
time." | looked at Megan. "Someone saw my dad die, and they took it and ran with it." | raised a shoulder. "There
is a ninety percent chance my dad is using magic to cover up his tracks, but it all boils down to the fact that they
are too full of themselves to double check someone they think is dead is really dead."
Megan snorted. "Stupid."
| nodded. "But it works in our favor." | sighed as | pushed up from the ground.
Megan followed me. "Are you ready?"
| nodded. "Spending a few hours pitying myself is enough." | sighed. "But it's tto face the music."
Nix chuckled. "I doubt it's music waiting for you back home."
| pushed forward. "You are probably right." | started running back to the pack house. "But if we are lucky, Rowan
will be back at his castle, and | just have to deal with my father and Ronnie."
Both my wolves growled. "I can understand not telling us the truth for a bit. But to keep all this hidden away, and
then to push us towards Rowan to at the very least forgive him, is where | draw the line." Nix stalked toward the
clearing.
| chuckled. "You two talk to his wolf.” They both turned to me. "Did you know?" | thought | was joking, but soon
as the words left my lips, knew wasn't. We had spent these last years working on growing our bond, but they had
met Erubus behind my back. So maybe then knew.
"I know you are hurting. But that hurt." Nix settled back on her haunches. "I thought we were past questioning
each other."
"That was before she found out we have been talking to Erubus behind her back." Megan laid down on her
stomach. "And before she found out, | had rejected
Brandon in the first year of school without telling either of you."

Nix looked between the two of us before she sighed, and then sank to her stomach. "Okay. | will agree that we
have done a few things that might make you question us." She laid her head on her paws. "But | can say with the
upmost sincerity that | had no idea. Erubus never toldanything about him being Thoth."
Megan sighed, and that made my stomach clench. | stumbled over my footing as she turned to look at"I
don't know if you will even trust my words, Amy." She looked down. "I know | haven't been the most honest with
you. But | swear, | didn't know. | would have told you if I did."
Her words comforted me. "I trust you both." | whispered back to them. "I just feel like if Ronnie, my mom and dad
knew, who else knew? Did Toya, or Wendy? Did Cass?"
"If Cass knew, she would have called. We know that." Nix snorted. "Playing dead or not, we would have gotten a
call. She wouldn't stand by and let that happen to you." Nix's words released something in my stomach.
"I hope you are right." We ran the rest of the way in silence. By the twe got back to the pack house, it was
night. The house looked empty. Not one light on. | shifted as | opened the door. Lights burned my eyes. "What
the fuck?"
"Magic bitch." Cass jumped on me. "I missed you so much." | pulled back and then dove into her arms.
"I missed you too."
She smirked. “I'll have dinner delivered to your room. Go shower, then we talk." She rubbed her hands together.
"Okay!" | ran upstairs, excited to spend the night with my best friend. | ran into my bedroom and into the shower.
| took the quickest shower ever, and wrapped myself in a towel before | made it back to my bedroom, turning on
their lights. "You are going to need to put clothes on, rabbit."
