Chapter 422 Having Second Thoughts

At Jacaster, the wedding between Stanley and Mindy was postponed.

With Zachary arrested and Fuller Group thrown into chaos, there was no way Stanley would hold a wedding

amidst such turmoil.

Mindy was also a bit worried that Stanley might get dragged into Zachary's troubles.

Since the wedding date was still up in the air, Stanley decided to head back to Mindy's hometown with her for a

visit.

Mindy's hometown was Riverstone Village, located in Huxville of the Northern District in Jacaster.

The villagers of Riverstone Village had long known that Mindy, Angus Schmidt's eldest daughter, had found

herself a wealthy boyfriend in the city.

Her boyfriend was incredibly generous, so Mindy was able to buy appliances for the house, purchase them a car,

and even arrange school transfers for her younger siblings.

Word had it that the family was even planning to buy a house in the city once Mindy and her boyfriend got

married.

It truly sparked envy in others.

Everyone was saying that Angus was indeed fortunate to have raised such a wonderful daughter.

Yet, speople made cynical remarks, suggesting that a wealthy city dweller would never marry a rural

woman who hadn't even finished high school and that he was just toying with her.

Seven commented about how it wasn't surprising that there were people willing to be in a sugar

relationship, considering how rich one could becafter spending a few years with a wealthy person. Even if

they parted ways in the end, they would still not be at a loss.

Unexpectedly, a beaming Angus announced to his family and friends that Mindy and her boyfriend had set their

wedding date for July. He then invited everyone to join them for a grand feast at a city hotel when the time

came.

With that, everyone was convinced, and their envy surged stronger.

Along with this, Angus' reputation in the village has greatly improved.

Angus was a notorious cheapskate, always seeking to take advantage of any small benefit. His stinginess had

earned him a poor reputation among the villagers in the past.

Now that he has a wealthy son-in-law from the city, they might have to rely on him for help in the future.

Hence, the villagers’ attitudes underwent a significant change.

Speople had a knack for telling others what they wanted to hear. They would sweet-talk Angus, making him

feel so good about himself that he seemed to walk on air.

Arnold, the eldest son of the Schmidt family, was known for his straightforward nature and strong sense of

loyalty. He often lent a helping hand to his fellow villagers, earning him a good reputation among the local

community.

In the past, whenever the two brothers were compared, people often praised Arnold.

Mindy and her cousin Madison were close in age and were often compared to each other as well.

When people spoke of Madison, they would talk about how she was a university student, attractive, academically

excellent, sensible, obedient, and respectful toward her parents. They would also say how wonderful it would be

if their children were like Madison. When people mentioned Mindy, they would often ask, "Isn't she getting on in

years? Does she have a significant other? If not, | might know someone for her."

Who would have thought that the situation had completely turned around now?

When Arnold was hospitalized due to kidney failure and required a substantial amount of money for treatment,

this forced Madison to drop out of school and start working.

Even though Mindy had dropped out of school at an early age, she managed to find herself a wealthy boyfriend.

Suddenly, her family was flush with money, and her parents and siblings all benefited from her good fortune.

Whenever Mindy was mentioned now, they would also talk about how blessed she was.

In life, luck really plays a crucial role.

This was true in every field. Luck could either bury a genuinely talented individual or raise up a mediocre one.

However, recently, Angus had informed his friends and family that the wedding date had been postponed.

Could it be that Mindy's boyfriend was having second thoughts about the marriage?

The villagers each perked up their ears, beginning to gossip.

As villagers far from the city, they had no clue about Fuller Group or any economic crimes committed by its

chairman. All they knew was that Mindy's boyfriend seemed to be abandoning her.

Angus simply explained that the groom's family had surgent matters to attend to, hence the wedding was

postponed. He assured everyone that they would certainly choose another date to hold the ceremony in the

future.

As for what was going on in the groom's family, he didn't clarify.

Who would believe that?

Everyone was privately speculating that Mindy's boyfriend must have called off the engagement.

Recently, Angus had been the talk of the town, causing envy and discontent among the villagers. Now that they

finally got the chance, one of them said, "I knew this would happen. Why would a rich man marry someone from

our village? Even if he did, he would choose someone like Madison, a university graduate. As for Mindy, | really

can't see what's so special about her that would make a wealthy man want to marry her."

Such assertions were becoming increasingly common.

It was around this tthat Stanley and Mindy arrived at Riverstone Village.

Angus had been waiting at hfor quite stime.

Upon hearing a commotion outside, he hastily sent the children to investigate.

Mindy's younger siblings could no longer contain their excitement and quickly ran outside.

Upon seeing the three luxury cars parked outside, and Stanley, who emerged from one of them, clad in a white

dress shirt and suit pants, the epitof sophistication, the three siblings felt a pang of intimidation. They were

afraid of embarrassing Mindy with their behavior and could only muster a timid, "Mindy."

"Rosie, Talia, Callum, this is your brother-in-law, Stanley. Go ahead and greet him."

The three of them were quick to welcStanley and Mindy through the door.

The entrance to Angus' house had long been crowded with villagers, all eager to take in the spectacle.

Upon seeing Stanley, who was young and handswith a tall, upright figure and a refined demeanor, it was

clear he was a gentleman deeply steeped in knowledge and culture. His mere presence drew everyone's eyes,

leading them all to secretly think that Mindy was indeed very fortunate.

With his appearance, the gossiping of the other villagers finally died down.

Stanley had gone all out.

The three luxury cars were each filled with gifts. Premium cigars and wines, high-end gift boxes, along with

specially selected presents for Mindy's younger siblings.

The drivers had to make several trips back and forth before everything was moved in.

The villagers watched, marveling endlessly and whispering amongst themselves.

Besides Stanley, there were also a few close relatives from the Fuller family. Although they were not as

prosperous as the main branch of the Fullers, to Angus and his family, each one of them was a wealthy individual

they could not afford to offend.

At first, Angus had considered putting on airs as a father-in-law.

He was seated in the living room, attentively listening to the sounds outside, his grip tense on the armrest.

When Stanley and his relatives arrived, for sreason, his face twitched with excitement. An obsequious smile

appeared on his face as he stood up to greet them, "Please, cin, cin!"

The way he was acting, he seemed like a subordinate entertaining a visiting superior, his demeanor significantly

diminished.

In retrospect, Angus was filled with regret over his own behavior.

Angus had also invited a few close relatives to entertain the guests.

They took turns introducing themselves.

When everyone sat down to chat, it was inevitable that they mentioned Arnold. They shared that he was

suffering from kidney failure and was recuperating in the city, making it inconvenient for him to join them.

In reality, Mindy hadn't informed Madison and Arnold. Otherwise, he would have definitely cto lend his

support.

Upon hearing this, Stanley said, "Kidney failure is no minor illness, Mindy. Why didn't you mention it to me? |

would have visited your Uncle Arnold sooner. The director of Mercy Hospital, Dr. Landon, is a friend of my

grandfather. If your Uncle Arnold is facing any difficulties, we could offer him shelp."

The close relatives of the Schmidt family couldn't help but inwardly admire Stanley's conduct. Regardless of

whether his offer of assistance was mere talk or genuine, at the very least, he made a good show of it publicly,

showing no signs of looking down on the Schmidts. They felt a surge of happiness in their hearts. If Stanley

wasn't merely paying lip service, then wouldn't he lend a hand if they ever faced any difficulties?

Mindy's lips twitched before she said, "Uncle Hugh, you might not be aware of Uncle Arnold's current situation.

He's already undergone a kidney transplant and is now in recovery. It wouldn't be appropriate to disturb him,

which is why I didn't mention it to you." Hugh asked, "A kidney transplant surgery? That must be quite

expensive, right? Madison is still in school, so where did they get that kind of money?"

"I'm not sure about that. It was all Madison's idea. | even offered to help her out, tried to give her my paycheck,

but she refused. She said she had enough money. | noticed she was carrying a designer bag, so | took my money

back," said Mindy nonchalantly. What could a university student possibly do to gather two hundred thousand in

such a short time?
