Chapter 858
The windows had been fortified, and there were daily patrols around the property. The front and back doors
offered no chance for escape.
He lay on the bed, one hand tucked under his head, staring aimlessly at the ceiling. Nelly had hoped to make a
run for it during the chaos, but she hadn't been successful. Unlike Dailey, her freedom wasn't entirely restricted.
Yet, given the heavy surveillance and security measures, escaping was far from easy.
The guards at the estate's entrance were well-informed by the Clarkson family, making it impossible to scale the
rear walls. This time, it seemed the Clarkson family was playing hardball, determined to sever any contact
between Dailey and Christine.
Nelly couldn't help but smirk at Dailey's earlier words. Was Christine really worth all this? They had grown up
together, but never had they felt such profound emotions. How long had Dailey even known Christine? It was

And Merritt? He was hopeless. Nelly had practically handed him the opportunity on a silver platter, yet he still
failed to win over Christine. If she couldn't find contentment, then she was determined that no one else would
either.
She made a call on her everyday phone as a decoy before pulling out an old phone from beneath the bed for a
more critical call.
Christine listened to Jane's advice, realizing that she couldn't afford to leave any trace. If she did, Dailey would
inevitably find her. Buying tickets with her ID, whether for a plane or a train, was out of the question. In the end,
she opted for a bus ride. To avoid attention, she didn't even bring a suitcase, just a simple black backpack.
Lucius saw Christine leave and promptly informed Gregory. Upon receiving the news, Gregory turned to Jane, "Do
you know what Christine is up to?"
"I have no idea," Jane replied, cutting him off before he even finished.
Gregory chuckled, "I haven't asked anything yet."
"No matter what you ask, | still don't know," Jane insisted.
Finding this situation a headache, Gregory sat beside her, pulling her close, "When Dailey gets out of the
Clarkson family's grip and can't find Christine, he's going to blus."
Jane shoved a piece of apple into his mouth, "Let him search. After all, if we don't know, what can he do?"
Gregory playfully tapped her nose, "It might not be safe out there. You shouldn't have let her leave alone, even if
you didn't stop her."
Jane retorted, "All the danger she's ever faced cfrom those around her. Vista Town is far more perilous for
her than the world outside."
Gregory decided to let it go. Forcing Christine and Dailey together was never going to work.

Christine swapped out her phone's SIM card and withdrew cash from the bank. Digital transactions could be
traced, but cash offered relative anonymity. She then boarded a bus that required no identification, enduring a
bumpy ten-hour ride to a small town.
Once there, she deliberately purchased a train ticket to Vista Town, only to disembark midway, settling in the
neighboring Riverside City. She found a bed and breakfast and tried to pay extra to avoid registering her ID. The
owner refused until Christine span a heart-wrenching tale of heartbreak and betrayal.
The innkeeper's wife overheard and, moved by Christine's plight, agreed to help "Sweetie, if anyone asks, just
say you're my distant cousin. Don't worry, | won't breathe a word to anyone."
"Thank you so much."
Christine, however, did not anticipate running into an unexpected acquaintance.
"Merritt," she exclaimed upon seeing him. "What are you doing here? Shouldn't you be with Helena?"
