Chapter 69
Nathan's words snappedout of my thoughts. | stared at him blankly. His eyes were sincere and deep. When
he looked at me, I felt like | could mess with him and get away with it.
| pushed those naughty thoughts away fast and straightened my face. “Mr. Hallman, I'm not going to cheat just
because he was playing the rooster.”
Nathan burst out laughing. “Is that supposed to be funny?” Today, Jared took Tracy, who had morning sickness,
to the hospital for a checkup.
I wasn’t in the mood to laugh. Nathan stopped laughing and softly said, “That's a good way to think. Don’t
punish yourself for other people’s mistakes. Just be yourself. Good things and good people will always get
noticed.”
His words healed a lot of my sadness right away. “You're not trying to hit on me, are you?” | blurted out without
thinking, caught up in my emotions.
Nathan looked shocked, and then his face flushed red. A pure guy really can’t resist teasing. “Uh, | mean, | can
be your friend, but | won't cross any lines,” | said honestly.

| wanted to be friends with Nathan. Having a powerful friend who could helpget ahead sounded great.
Nathan looked hurt by what I said.
He said with a deep look, “I never meant to cross the line. At first, | just wanted to get to know you.”
| smiled and said, “Aren't we already friends now?”
“Yeah. If you want to be friends, that makeshappy.” Nathan's gaze was warm, but | knew he had other
feelings too.
Nathan changed the subject. Halfway through the meal, | suddenly remembered something more urgent. |
quickly looked at Nathan. “Can you doa favor right now?”
Seeing my serious face, Nathan nodded right away. “Sure. What is it?”
“Can you send someone to the affiliate hospital's OB-GYN department to take sphotos for me?” | said,
feeling anxious.
“Okay. Whose photos?” Nathan asked.
“Jared took the company’s VP, Tracy, to the OB-GYN department,” | said flatly.
Nathan was shocked. “I don’t know if it's too late now, but | have to do this to collect evidence for the divorce.” |
looked down and hid the sadness in my eyes.
Nathan stared atfor a long moment, then quietly got up from his seat and stepped outside to make a phone
call.
After a short while, he cback and said, “I sent my most trusted person over there. If they can’t get any
photos, Ill use my connections to find out what's going on.”
| looked at him gratefully and said, “Thank you.”
In my previous life, | was isolated by everyone. | wasn’t from Hachester and wasn’t good at making connections.
If Yvonne hadn't cried and let sinformation slip, | wouldn't have known how close Tracy and Jared were.
Therefore, Nathan's help felt like a lifeline. He looked atwith a bit of pity. | lowered my head and sipped my
coffee, worried he might ask for more details.

Luckily, he didn’t pressand just comforted me, saying he would tellas soon as he heard anything. We left
the restaurant around 2:30. My car was in front, and his car followed closely behind.
I had always been confident in my driving, but after about ten minutes, | bumped the car in front ofon a
curve.
The driver cursed loudly and jumped out, glaring at the dented tail light | caused. | was shocked and hit my
forehead on the steering wheel. Ignoring the pain, | quickly got out and apologized.
Maybe because I looked pretty, the driver stared atfor two seconds. Though angry, his attitude softened a
lot. “Young lady, you must be new at this. Look what you did to my tail light. | was rushing to pick up my kid.”
My mind was a little foggy, and | said instinctively, “I'm sorry. It wasn’t on purpose. It's my fault.”
Just then, a gentle male voice spoke behind me. “Ms. Murphy, are you okay?”
| turned and saw Nathan still behind me. | was surprised since his company was in the opposite direction. The
driver immediately asked, “Are you her husband?”
“I'm her friend,” Nathan said.
“She just said it was all her fault. You don’t have a problem with that, right?” The driver pushed aggressively.
