Regret 92 Catching the hatred flashing in her eyes, Evander's brows drew together, his expression shadowed by something complex. "If you have something to say, let's take this outside." "I'm not going anywhere." "Charlotte." Evander's tone hardened, the warning unmistakable. "Don't makerepeat myself." Her eyes were rimmed red, all her pent-up hurt, resentment, and anger igniting at the mention of everything Hiram had suffered. She didn't care about the pain in her wrist where he gripped her; her gaze was icy as she looked past Evander to where Tricia hovered behind him.

"I tried to talk to you, tried to work something out-I gave you a chance to compromise. But you? Why did you have to push me?" "Dr... Dr. Sterling, what are you talking about? How did I push you?" Tricia's voice was all innocent confusion. Evander's patience had reached its end. "Charlotte, what exactly are you trying to do?" "What am I trying to do?" Charlotte let out a bitter laugh, yanking her arm free. Her palm brushed sharply past the edge of his jaw as she raised her voice, raw with emotion. "I should be asking you that! All I wanted was a fair trial, one where neither of you interfered. Is that really so much to ask?" Tears spilled down her face as her anger spilled over. "Hiram was beaten so badly at the police station that he's now fighting for his life in the hospital! Don't tellthis wasn't your doing-who else could've arranged something like that?" Evander froze, his face darkening. "What did you just say?" Charlotte wiped her tears away, her voice cold with sarcasm. "You're quite the actor, aren't you, Mr. Howard?" "A suspect is assaulted in a police station, right under the officers' noses-not single person tries to stop it. Why do you think that is?" "If you hadn't given the order, who would dare go that far? Hiram had already accepted the verdict, but that wasn't enough for you. You wanted him to pay with his life, just to appease Tricia?" A strange tightness seized Evander's chest. His lips pressed into a thin, grim line.

Tricia couldn't bring herself to meet Charlotte's gaze, shrinking back in silence.

After everything inside her had spilled out, Charlotte's face went blank. She looked at them both with icy resolve. "If he dies, I'll drag you both to hell with me." She turned and stormed out of the hospital room.

The nurses gathered in the hallway scattered at once, none daring to say a word as they caught sight of the stormy look on her face.

Inside the room, Evander clenched his jaw so hard it hurt, his entire face cast in shadow. He rounded on Tricia, his eyes cold and searching. "What did you do?" Panic flashed through Tricia, but she forced herself to hold his gaze. "Evander, are you accusing me? I didn't do anything!" Staring into those deep, inscrutable eyes, Tricia bit her lip, her eyes reddening with unshed tears. "Even if I wanted to do something, I wouldn't even know where to begin. How could I possibly have the power to make those people target Dr. Sterling's brother?" After a long, heavy silence, Evander finally looked away. "Get srest." He turned and left.

"Evander..." Tricia reached out, but her hand closed on empty air. She could only watch his retreating back, her own eyes simmering with resentment.

She picked up her phone and dialed Mrs. Fontaine, her expression growing serious. “Is the guy you arranged to keep an eye on Hiram reliable?"

"Absolutely. Those thugs will do anything if the price is right. And the young man helping out at the station cousin- is my cousin-so long as there's no surveillance footage, he'll stick to his story. No one will trace it back to us."

Hearing this, Tricia finally relaxed, a cold smile twisting her lips. "I owe you one, Mrs. Fontaine Don't worry-once I becMrs. Howard and Director Fontaine takes the reins at the hospital, it'll be smooth sailing." Mrs. Fontaine chuckled, her tone ingratiating. "Then letthank the future Mr Howard in advance!" Hiram survived the emergency surgery, but he remained in the ICU, still unconscious and under observation.

Chapter 92 Charlotte walked to the ICU doors, about to go in, when Xavier's agitated voice sounded behind her.

"This is a nightmare! That foolish boy threw away his whole future for her, and now look at us your only son's lying there, and we don't even know if he'll wake up!" Xavier's grief and regret were palpable.

Charlotte's mother, Rachel, sat quietly beside him for a long moment before speaking. "What's done is done. Complaining won't change anything now." Xavier's voice trembled with old resentment. "I never should have agreed to let you bring her into this family." Chapter 93
