Regret 57 Chapter 57 Evander walked into Charlotte's bedroom, only to catch her in the middle of taking her medicine.

Startled, Charlotte quickly shoved the bottle out of sight. But he strode over in an instant and seized her wrist, his eyes sharp and unyielding. "What are you hiding?" She shrank away from his grip, wincing in pain. "Let go of me." "Are you the one who drugged me?" His accusation sliced through her, leaving her heart in tatters. She let out a bitter, incredulous laugh. “Evander, you think I drugged you? Am I skind of masochist, just waiting for you to treatlike this?" The truth was, Evander never really suspected her. Deep down, he knew. But he hated the way she stood up to him, hated her defiance.

"Who knows? Maybe you're hoping to get pregnant with my child." His nonchalance stung far more than anger ever could.

Charlotte opened her hand, revealing a bottle of birth control pills. "Sorry to disappoint you. That's not going to happen." When he caught sight of the label, a flash of red anger flared in his eyes, and his grip tightened, biting into her skin. He spoke, voice low and deliberate, “You're ruthless." He let go, turned, and slammed the door behind him.

1 Genevieve, who'd been lurking by the stairs, saw Evander storm out, his face thunderous. She smirked in satisfaction. Charlotte was probably bawling her eyes out in her room right now-served her right. That's what she got for throwing herself at someone who never wanted her.

Charlotte spent the night at the old estate. The next morning, she went to say goodbye to the matriarch.

The elderly woman had Linette make stea, turning the rosary beads in her hand. “Are you sure you want to go through with divorcing Evander?" "Grandma, I won't change my mind." Not after everything that happened last night. No matter who drugged Evander, her decision was final.

Seeing the resolve in Charlotte's eyes, the old woman didn't try to persuade her anymore.

1/3 09:40 As Charlotte left the room and rounded the corner in the hallway she ran into Genevieve, Charlotte tried to walk past without a word, but Genevieve blocked her path, chin raised in defiance.

"Charlotte, did you go running to Grandma again? You know my cousin doesn't even like you, so why are you still clinging to him? Are you that desperate? Do you just love humiliating yourself?" Desperate... So that's how everyone saw her-pathetic, hopelessly devoted, a fool.

"Don't worry. In two months, you can have your precious Tricia back with your cousin," Charlotte replied coolly, stepping around her and walking away.

Genevieve stared after her, stunned. Was this really Charlotte? When Charlotte got back to Tranquility Manor, she stepped out of the car and called Professor Carstairs to let him know that Rosemary had agreed to give them the project.

Professor Carstairs was delighted. "That's wonderful news! I'll have someone reach out to her tomorrow. Lottie, this project is a gift to you from the old lady herself. Once you cto Riverspire City, I'll hand everything over to you." Charlotte could hardly believe it. "Thank you, Professor." After hanging up, she looked up and, in the shadow cast by the building, finally made out the man standing at the doorway, smoking. Remembering the night before, she pressed her lips together, acting as though he didn't exist, and walked right past him.

Evander's gaze flicked up. "What did you say to Grandma?" She stopped, not turning around. "Nothing important."

She stepped into the elevator, Evander following right behind. When Charlotte turned suddenly, she almost walked straight into him, and instinctively stepped back.

Evander said nothing, simply pressed the button for his floor.

Just as the elevator doors slid shut, Tricia emerged from the opposite She saw m hallway. The moment Evander and Charlotte together, every Fand trace of expression vanished from her face.

She'd always suspected something was going on between them, but she never imagined they were living together. No wonder Charlotte had moved into this neighborhood. 2/3 The thought that Evander had never spent the night at her place, but was staying with Charlotte instead, made jealousy burn through her like acid.

Charlotte really was a thorn in her side.

Tricia snatched up her phone and called Director Fontaine. "Are you free? I need a little favor." 3/3
