Regret 249 Charlotte froze.

Evander just smiled, brushing it off. "You prefer lighter flavors, don't you? Letmake you something else." He turned and headed for the kitchen.

Clenching her fists, Charlotte stood up and shouted, "Evander, I'm not eating your breakfast! You don't have to cook for me!" He paused, as if her words hadn't even registered. “Eat first, then work." With a sharp clang, Charlotte slammed her cutlery onto the table.

Evander immediately cout of the kitchen. Seeing the mess on the floor, he stepped over and gently opened her hand. "Did you hurt yourself?" The noise startled Natalie and the bodyguard; they hurried in, taking in the scene. Natalie looked like she wanted to say something but held back. Since it didn't seem serious, the group quietly withdrew.

Biting her lip, Charlotte pulled her hand away, refusing to meet his eyes.

Evander knew she was venting. His voice was low and rough. "If you're angry, take it out on me. Just don't hurt yourself." Charlotte didn't argue with him any further; she simply gave in.

No matter how she resisted, he never seemed to care. So, fine-she'd stop resisting. She was curious to see just how far he'd go to indulge her.

No sooner had Charlotte arrived at the hospital than her phone rang by the elevator. It was Old Mr. Carstair. He told her that Aldridge's team had joined the nano-therapy project and would be arriving in Riverspire City next week. He wanted her to attend when they arrived.

She'd only met Professor Aldridge once and hadn't had much of a conversation with him. Still, she knew that with Aldridge on board, the project's future looked bright.

Charlotte agreed.

The elevator doors slid open. As she stepped in, she found herself face-to-face with Judd.

She hesitated, then moved to stand beside him, greeting him politely. "Good 1/3 12.52 Chapter 249 morning, Professor Carstairs." Judd pressed the elevator button. "You're coming withon rounds this afternoon.” "Me?" Charlotte pointed at herself. "Isn't Gentry your assistant?" "He's on leave." "Leave? Is he sick?" "Blind date." "...Oh." Charlotte blinked, pausing for a second. "So why me?" Judd replied offhandedly, "Visiting specialists get to choose any assistant they want. You're new, so I picked you." Charlotte squeezed out a smile. "Lucky me. Thanks, I guess." "No need to thank me." "...Right." Charlotte and Judd exited the elevator together, only to run into Noreen coming the other way.

Charlotte hesitated. She knew Noreen had a thing for Judd, and since they'd only just becfriends, she didn't want any misunderstandings.

She walked over to Noreen. "Total coincidence, running into each other like this." Noreen pressed her lips together, sneaking a glance at Judd.

Judd was scrolling through his phone, oblivious to them.

"Hey, you don't have to explain," Noreen said, giving Charlotte's shoulder a reassuring pat. "I know you're not that kind of person."

Charlotte lifted her chin and gestured at Judd. "But he pickedto assist him this afternoon-seriously, I'm department head, not his lackey." Noreen looked surprised. "And you're complaining?" "Talking to him is like talking to a brick wall. Want to take my place?" Charlotte nudged her, but Noreen just shook her head. "No way. I'd have even less to say to Professor Carstairs. I never know what to talk about around him." 212 12:52 Chapter 249 Judd appeared behind them just then, his gaze cool and unreadable. "I can hear you, you know." The words made both women jump.

Noreen, looking like a kid caught sneaking cookies, fled the scene, leaving

Charlotte to face Judd alone. She forced a smile and quickly changed the subject. "So, what tare we starting rounds this afternoon?"

He leaned down a little, not too close, but enough that she could could d catch the faint scent of soap on his shirt. "You have my number, don't you? I'll message you." Before she could respond, Judd strode past her and disappeared down the hall.
