Regret 226 The receptionist gestured to the left. "Just down there." "Thank you." Charlotte walked up to the office door and knocked.

When she heard a response, she opened the door and stepped inside.

These offices were all shared by two people. Besides Director Wolfe, a young female doctor was also present.

Director Wolfe glanced at Charlotte, momentarily taken aback. "And you are?" "Hello. I'm Charlotte-I interviewed with the deputy director last week. Here's my résumé. Looks like we'll be colleagues from now on." She handed her file over.

Director Wolfe flipped through the pages, eyebrows raised in surprise. “You were chief surgeon at your last hospital? And you're this young-and, well, this striking?" The young doctor looked just as astonished.

Charlotte merely smiled and didn't respond. After a moment, she asked, "You're my senior, so I'll call you Professor Wolfe, if that's all right. Also, could you tellwhere my office is?" Pleased by the respect, and gratified by the deference to his experience, Director Wolfe was clearly satisfied with her. He turned to the younger woman beside him. "Noreen, would you show Director Sterling to her office?" Noreen Lennox stood up, gave Charlotte a quick once-over, and replied without much enthusiasm, "Follow me." Charlotte nodded her thanks to Director Wolfe and left with Noreen.

As they walked down the hallway, Charlotte glanced curiously around, intrigued by her new workplace. Noreen/looked back at her. There were plenty of pretty nurses in this hospital, but none of them cclose to Charlotte.

How could someone have such delicate features-a perfectly shaped oval face, so small you could cup it in your palm, and those large, striking eyes? She looked like she'd stepped out of a painting.

Even her demeanor was different from everyone else's.

Noticing a faint edge of hostility from Noreen, Charlotte frowned slightly. "Did I offend you somehow?" Noreen snapped out of her thoughts and forced a smile. "No, not at all. I was just curious-what made you want to join our hospital?" "I've decided to settle down in Riverspire City, and I heard District General Hospital is the best in town. It seemed like the right choice." "I see..." Noreen trailed off and led her to an office. "This one's yours." "Thank you." Charlotte stepped inside.

Noreen watched her disappear through the door, gave a little huff, and walked away.

There were two desks in the office. One was already in use, its surface meticulously tidy.

Charlotte set her bag down on the empty desk. Her eye was immediately drawn to the orchids on the windowsill, especially a pot with vivid red blooms and leaves so green they seemed almost luminous.

She found herself drawn closer, just wanting a better look.

"Don't touch that." A man's voice sounded from the doorway.

Charlotte turned, and the moment their eyes met, her heart skipped a beat.

For a split second, she almost thought he was Evander.

They didn't actually look alike, but there was something about his m presence-those deep, cool eyes, the sharp features. The kind of face that left an impression.

But while this man had a striking, almost arrogant handsomenessm Evander's appeat was more understated-elegant, reserved, quietly magnetic. "Sorry, I wasn't going to touch it. I just wanted a closer look." "Who told you you could/cin here?" There was a clear note of displeasure in his tone.

Charlotte guessed he was probably used to having the office to himself, and couldn't blhim for being annoyed at the sudden intrusion. "A doctor named 2/3 12.41 Chapter 226 Noreen broughthere. She said this would be my office, too."

He frowned, setting down the file he was holding. "I paid for this officen myself because t don'tlike being disturbed. So, I'm going to have to ask you to leave."
