Regret 160 His gaze flicked up to the antique clock on the wall. "Punctual, aren't you?" Charlotte stood there, silent.
Looking at her cool, detached eyes-as if she bore sdeep grudge against him-Evander let out a brief laugh.
"Not thrilled about moving back in, are you?" She felt a bit lost in that moment.
The more she tried to figure out this man's moods, the less sense he made. She honestly found it a little funny. "It's not like you were ever that eager to share a roof with me, either." Evander's smile faded. "So you care about the past?" She didn't answer, just asked, "I've agreed to move back. When are you going to sign the papers?" He lounged on the sofa, thumb and fingers pressed to his forehead, looking utterly unconcerned. “Depends on my mood." Charlotte turned and headed toward the guest room. She was about to close the door when his shadow blocked it.
Startled, she instinctively stepped back. "Evander, what are you doing?" "What do you think?" In two easy strides, Evander wrapped his arm around her waist and swept her onto the bed, his lips finding hers.
She was terrified, hands braced against his chest as she tried to turn away. “Evander, no, I don't want this!" His breathing turned ragged. Seeing the tears of fear in her eyes, his movements softened, his voice rough and low. "I won't hurt you." After what happened last time-when he'd been drugged and the whole experience left her shaken-he actually seemed to care about her feelings now.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtThere was such a difference in strength between them; Charlotte knew there was no escaping him. Biting her lip, she endured the storm of his gentleness.
The room was plunged into darkness, making her senses acutely sharp.
Evander was so gentle he seemed like a different man.
1/3 14:43 Chapter ToV For a fleeting moment, Charlotte thought no woman could resist this tenderness-not even her. She forgot, briefly, all that had happened before. She forgot the dirtiness, the betrayal.
In that feverish, all-consuming passion, he made her feel things she'd never felt before, burning away the people they used to be. She hated herself for giving in, despised her own weakness. It was as if she wasn't herself anymore.
Evander took her twice, not wanting to stop, until her voice was hoarse from crying and he finally relented.
He carried her to the bathroom, washing her gently as she drifted in and out of consciousness, too exhausted to even lift a finger.
When he brought her back to bed, she fell asleep almost instantly. Evander stood at her bedside for a long moment before leaving.
He went to the liquor cabin the living room, poured himself a glass of whiskey, and sat at the bar.
This tthere was no alcohol or drugs in his system. He'd wanted her-completely sober.
He didn't even know why he'd lost control like that.
Especially after hearing that Jonathan had sent her flowers in front of everyone. A dark, dangerous urge had taken hold of him.
He wanted to lock her away.
The next morning, when Charlotte woke up, Evander was nowhere to be seen. The wildness of last night felt like a dream.
But she knew it wasn't.
Suddenly, a thought struck her. Had he used protection last night? There were no emergency pills at home, and it was probably too late to go out and get one now.
Her frown deepened. Still, she doubted Evander would want her to get pregnant-he'd almost certainly used protection,
Even so, she needed to get a checkup. Who knew what he might have picked up from sleeping with Tricia? "Ma'am, are you up?" 14-43 Chapter 160 Lana's voice cfrom outside the door.
Charlotte opened it to find Lana in her apron, ready to speak. Her eyes fell on the obvious red mark on om Charlotte's neck, and her smile widened. "Mr. Bennett said you're staying again. Looks like you two have made up." Made up? If only it were that simple.
To Charlotte, last night felt more like being bitten by a dog.
She forced a smile. “Just staying for a while." "Breakfast is ready." "Thank you."
Charlotte had barely finished breakfast when she got a message from Wesley. She didn't hesitate to accept his invitation.
