Regret 154 Chapter 154 Evander's expression darkened. He reached out, trapping her between his chest and the hood of the car. "You really want a divorce that badly?" She tilted her head up to meet his gaze. "Yes." He stared at her, eyes so intense it felt as if he could see right through her.

A chill ran down Charlotte's spine. She couldn't stand the way he was looking at her and turned away, frowning. "Think it through before you contactagain." She brushed his arm aside and had barely taken two steps when his low voice sounded behind her. "You want a divorce-because of Jonathan?" Charlotte froze. For a fleeting moment, her face fell, but she quickly composed herself. "What difference does it make, whether it's because of him or not?" "He lied to you, used you, and you still trust him?” Charlotte said nothing.

Evander closed the distance between them, his voice soft but unyielding. "He's not really trying to help you. You should think carefully before divorcingfor a man like that." Her hands, hanging at her sides, clenched into fists, then relaxed.

She turned to face him, her voice steady. "Do you honestly believe Jonathan is the reason I want a divorce?" He frowned.

"And even if he is just using me, he's still better than you ever were." "Charlotte." His eyes flashed coldly as he grabbed her arm. "How long are you going to keep this up?" Charlotte yanked her arm free. "You'd do well to stop chasing me, Mr. Howard." Without another word, she strode toward the house, never looking back.

Upstairs, behind the bedroom curtains, Rachel watched the entire scene unfold. When Charlotte cinside and started up the stairs, she nearly bumped into her mother.

Rachel looked surprised. "Lottie, I thought you'd be asleep by now." 1/3 14:41 Chapter 154 Charlotte shook her head. "I could ask you the same, Mom. Why are you still up?" Rachel glanced out the window. "Why was he here so late?" "I have no idea." Charlotte's answer was honest, though her thoughts were spinning. Did Evander really call this way just to tell her that Hiram's business had nothing to do with him? And then there was Jonathan...

Rachel's gentle voice broke through her reverie. "Charlotte?" Charlotte snapped back and smiled, looping her arm through her mother's. "Let's not worry about him tonight, Mom. We should get srest." Rachel nodded, gave the window one last glance, and went with Charlotte back to the bedroom.

Late at night, in a luxury hotel suite, a man and a woman were tangled in a feverish embrace. Tricia leaned against the glass window, catching her breath, the city's dazzling lights blurring the world beyond and hiding the man's face behind her.

When it was over, the man pulled away without hesitation, picking up his suit pants from the floor and slipping them on with unhurried ease.

Tricia, still flushed and satisfied, looked back at him with a teasing bite to her lip. "Is it just me, or are all you men the same-on and off the bed?" He fastened his belt, voice cool. "We're both adults, Tricia. You wanted this as much as I did. Or have you forgotten it was you, Miss Winthrop, who made the first move?" Tricia's smile faded as she tightened the sash of her dress.

If only she could have Evander, she would never have bothered with this man.

"Evander trackeddown at Conrad's place. He'll be coming for Mrs. Fontaine soon enough," the man NO said, turning so the city lights outlined his profile. "I hope you know what you're doing."

Tricia's hands clenched. "I'll handle her. But don't forget your promise-you said said you helpbecMrs. Howard!” Her eyes bored into his back. "You're not backing out for Charlotte's sake, are you, Mr. Pembroke?"

Jonathan turned to face her, a faint, crooked smile breaking through his usual grimness. "This apartnership, Tricia. You get what you want, I get what I want. There's no need for either of us to interfere with the other." 2/3 14:41 Chapter 154 She finally let out a shaky breath, reassured. "Good." Tricia stepped closer, twining her fingers in his tie. "I never took you for such a convincing actor, Mr. Pembroke. I wonder how Charlotte would react if she ever found out what you really are-"
