The moment Mrs. Rayburn saw it, she quieted instantly, clutching the doll to her chest as if someone might snatch it away. "It's okay, it's okay, Mommy's here. Mommy's here..." Julian wiped sweat from his brow-his career had nearly gone up in smoke! He noticed Rachel, still shaken, and quickly stepped up to explain, "I'm so sorry-my wife startled you. Are you alright?" It was only then that Rachel snapped back to reality. She shook her head. "I'm... I'm fine..." "Thank goodness," Julian breathed out, then turned to the nurses. "Let's get my wife back to her room." The staff coaxed Mrs. Rayburn away with practiced patience until she finally followed them down the hall.
Even after they disappeared around the corner by the elevators, Rachel's heart was still pounding.
Just then, Xavier cout to find her, noticing she'd been gone fetching hot water for far too long. "You went to get hot water, didn't you? Why are you just standing there?" She didn't answer.
He walked over, concern creasing his brow. "What's wrong?" "Xavier, I just... I saw a woman." He didn't seem particularly interested. "What woman? Go get our son washed up will you? If you don't, he's going to start smelling." "She looked like Lottie. Do you think... could she be Lottie's biological mother?" Rachel would be happy if Charlotte ever found her real parents.

"Don't be ridiculous. Just because someone looks alike doesn't mean they're related. There are plenty of people who resemble each other in this world." Xavier took the basin from her hands. "If you won't do it, I will. Don't dawdle." Charlotte returned to Tranquility Manor, only to receive a call from Jonathan. She picked up, "Jonathan?" "Why aren't you at the hospital? Did you get transferred?" "Are you sick?" Jonathan, signing something at the nurses' station, replied, "No, a friend's in the hospital with a broken leg. I just stopped by to visit and thought I'd see you too, but you weren't there." Charlotte nodded as it dawned on her. "I'm on leave-actually, I'm about to be transferred anyway, so I figured I'd start my vacation early." "You free tonight? Want to grab dinner?" She paused at the elevator, considering. "You're buying?" "Of course." "If you're paying, I'm not going. Feels like I'm always taking advantage of you-my conscience can't handle it." He laughed, bright and easy. "Alright, alright, you pay this time, I swear." Charlotte muttered, "Are you tricking me?" He heard her and sighed, massaging his forehead. "Con, I promise-if I pay tonight, I'll bark like a dog for you right there." From his end of the line, a woman's snicker rang out, followed by Jonathan's exasperated voice, "What are you laughing at? It's not for you." Charlotte couldn't help but chuckle. "Fine. See you tonight." "Sendthe address later." After hanging up, Charlotte stepped into the elevator.
By seven that evening, she'd already reserved a table and was waiting at the 212 Chapter 127 restaurant.
It wasn't long before Jonathan appeared in the lobby, his gaze m immediately finding hers through the crowd.
He wore a loud floral shirt under a crisp white blazer. On most men, this flashy getup would look ridiculous, but oh Jonathan, it had a certain stylish flair that few could pull off.
Maybe it was his movie-star good looks or his tall, athletic-frame-If the ever tried his luck in showbiz, he'd probably do just fine. Jonathan leaned in, almost nose-to-nose with her. "What? Do I have something on my face?" She snapped out of it, embarrassed, and shook her head before grabbing the menu to order.
