I get him. After all, didn't I get that nagging feeling that things will go horribly wrong? But what choice do we have? Even if I becthe anchor for the spell, there is Xena to be worried about and something tellsthat she won't rest until Kaden is free.
"Brian's helping us. He's training the warriors." I change the subject.
"You're letting him near our warriors?" he asks, alarmed.
"I know how it sounds," I say quickly. "But I have this feeling, King. I don't think he's like the others. I think there's more to him than what we've seen, plus we made a deal and I don't think he'd dare cross me." He doesn't answer right away. "I trust your instincts," he finally says, even though I can still hear the caution in his voice. "But just... be careful." "I will." There's a pause before I speak again, my voice lower now, more thoughtful. "What do you think will happen to them? The hybrids, I mean. If I can't find a way to reconcile her and Nyx, then I'll have to kill her... what happens to them? Do they die with her? Go back to being wolves or witches or vampires? Or do they just stay like this forever... A new species?" King is quiet. "I don't know. Maybe no one does. I guess we'll have to wait and see." I nod, even though he can't see me. "Has Beth cback?" "No, she hasn't," he says.
My heart sinks. "I miss her. I'm worried something happened to her." I honestly don't know where she goes and every twe ask, she's always so vague with her answers.
"From what you told me, she can take care of herself," he says gently. "Don't worry she'll cback when she's ready." Funny thing is that Beth and King have never met. I know, it's weird... but for sreason, when Beth is around, King is always away; by the the comes back, Beth is gone.

"I hope so." We sit in silence for a moment before I take a breath. "I need you to chere, King. I need all of you withfor this final stretch. We're getting ready to take Kaden down, and I can't do that without my family." He doesn't hesitate. "I'll be there. Givea week, maybe two. I'll put things in place and find someone to run the pack in our absence." Relief washes over me. "Thank you." "In the meantime," I add, "I'll have someone record the training sessions with Brian. We'll send them to the warriors back home. It might help them get a better idea of what we're up against." "That's smart," he says. "Do it." We say our goodbyes, and I end the call, slipping the phone back into my pocket.
I take a long breath, tilt my face up to the sky, and close my eyes.
