Reese had a gut feeling that if she expressed sympathy towards Ella Rhodes, Lukas might show up and strangle
her directly.
She shook her head, looking a bit dazed, "No. | used to feel sympathetic toward her, but that was before |
learned she was willing to harm others for her selfish desires. Knowing the malice she held against me, and what
she had planned to do withthat night, | would only regret sympathizing with someone like her before."
Lukas's eyes lit up, and he softly hummed, "You're not naive."
Reese frowned and stared at Lukas, questioning, "Then why are you involving yourself with this? They're dealing
with me, and this matter has nothing to do with you, does it?"
Lukas's expression turned somewhat unpleasant, "Reese, have you already forgotten who you are, or your
current situation?"
Reese pursed her lips, "So, you're doing all of this because of me."
Reese's emotions were complicated beyond words.
Lukas gave a wry smile, his tone firm, "You think too much. In my book, With you in my account, | won't tolerate
anyone mistreating you, now that you're under my protection."
Reese's expression changed slightly, and she looked at Lukas, "Even though they deserve it, | still..."
Lukas cut her off, a bit annoyed, "Why are you so ungrateful?" He said.
Reese pressed her lips together, "I'm not." She responded in defense.
Lukas looked at her, his irritation showing, "Reese, understand that it is their hearts that were malicious. What |
did is just simply stir the waters. If Ella let go of her hatred and desire for revenge, the car accident wouldn't

two-way street."
"You have to realize that Alexa's course of actions that caused Ella to have a miscarriage was the final straw that
broke her. Reese, you wouldn't understand such simple and straightforward reasoning, don't you?"
Reese's complexion shifted, and she stared at Lukas, "Mr. Strakovski, it's not that | can't comprehend it. I'm just
finding it hard to accept that you foresaw all of this. You..."
Lukas's expression darkened suddenly, "Do you think I'm monstrous?"
Reese clenched her lips tightly, remaining silent.
Lukas stood abruptly and walked over to Reese.
Reese immediately felt the pressure intensify, freezing in place. Her unease grew, "Mr. Strakovski..."
Lukas looked down at her, knelt on the sofa, and cupped Reese's chin, "Reese, | didn't expect you to harbor such
an ungrateful side. You're thinking that they're fighting each other just because of me, right?"
Reese's jaw ached from the pressure, and she remained quiet.
Lukas felt anger and frustration. He rarely had these times when he couldn't control his emotions.
Lukas tightened his grip, causing Reese to emit a pained sound from her mouth.
Suddenly, Little Reese leaped from the nearby sofa and accidentally scratched Lukas with its claw. A small
bloody mark appeared on the wrist that Lukas had been using to hold Reese.
Reese's pupils contracted in surprise, her attention drawn to the unexpected event.
Lukas's expression turned sour as he looked down at the cautious feline.
Quickly, Little Reese scurried behind Reese for protection. Reese acted swiftly, addressing Lukas, "Mr. Strakovski,
please stop. It doesn't comprehend what's happening."
Lukas's countenance was difficult to interpret, a mix of annoyance and uncertainty.
With a hint of sarcasm, he remarked, "Do you believe I'm so heartless that I'd harm even a small animal?"
Reese pressed her lips together, choosing not to respond to his rhetorical question.
Without holding her chin any longer, Lukas disregarded his wrist's discomfort and began to ascend the staircase,
instructing, "Reese, cwith me."
Reese stood up and stretched out her hand to gently pat Little Reese's head, whispering softly in a slightly
helpless tone, "I understand that you're concerned for me, but we can't resort to hurting others on impulse." She
directed her whispered words toward the feline.
Reese followed Lukas upstairs.
Lukas entered the study directly, and Reese followed suit.
He positioned himself behind the desk, facing Reese, his expression dark, "Reese, why do you think | am
involving myself in this matter?" He asked.
Reese pursed her lips, sidestepping the question and instead addressing his bleeding wrist, "Mr. Strakovski, your
wrist is bleeding. We should clean it and ensure you don't get infected." She pointed out.
Lukas's visage remained impassive, his voice cold, "I'm not going to die with a single scratch. Now answer my
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏmquestion."
Reese shook her head. "I don't know." She said, her reply was concise.
She hadn't encountered such dark matters before, and now that she was aware of their connection to Lukas, fear
clenched at her heart. However, she wasn't oblivious to it.
Lukas had stood up for her, and if she blamed him, then it would indeed be unjust.
Yet, the scene she had witnessed today was disturbing, and she struggled to reconcile that within herself. She
just didn't know how to communicate this to Lukas.
But before she could bring herself to explain her situation, Lukas retrieved two pieces of paper from the desk,
saying, "This is the answer that you've been seeking."
Reese was taken aback, staring at the items in Lukas's hand with a tinge of disbelief, "What is this?"
At this moment, Lukas realized that helping Reese was akin to digging a hole in his own head.
He had handed this letter to her, and the prospect of dealing with Reese's affairs in the future made him
contemplate the idea of removing his head and using it as
a soccer ball.
Sarcasm dripped from his gaze as he looked at Reese, asking, "What do you think? If | hadn't obtained this letter
from Ricardo, | wouldn't have allowed Alexa Roberts to marry Gerald Hughes. Do you believe the Hughes family
would have agreed to the marriage without gaining anything? This marriage is a major undertaking orchestrated
by me, all in exchange for this letter. Now, do you understand, Reese?"
